The Municipal Court is an independent branch of Town government established by Town Council and is responsible for the administration of justice within the jurisdiction of the Town. Municipal Court is a summary court under the authority of the unified court system of the State of South Carolina and as such adjudicates misdemeanor violations of city and state laws. The Municipal Court is subject to the directives of Town Council and the South Carolina Administration Office.
Court is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00am. The 1st and 2nd Thursday of the month at 3:30pm and the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 3:30pm. Jury trials are held on select Fridays at 9:00am. Criminal Domestic Violence Court is held the 4th Monday of every month at 2:00pm. The Summerville Municipal Court has (3) judges, a court administrator and (3) record clerks.
Fines & Payments
If you have received a ticket from a Summerville Police Department officer or a Town Official within the Town limits of Summerville, your ticket will be handled through the Town of Summerville Municipal Court.
Questions related to accrued violation "points" need to be addressed to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles
If you do not wish to appear in court, you may post the bond amount of your ticket with the Municipal Court. Fines are due prior to the commencement of court on the assigned court date.
Payments are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 4:30pm (Note: Coin payments will only be accepted if the coins are rolled.)
After hours payments may be left in the drop box located at the entrance facing the First Citizens Bank and the fountain.
Online payments accepted 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
Payments by phone will not be accepted.
Pay By Mail - You may prefer to mail in your payment. Mail a certified check, cashier's check or money order made payable to the Town of Summerville. Personal checks cannot be accepted. Please include the original and/or copy of the tickets with your exact payment.
If you do not have the ticket include your name, ticket number (if available), court date and current mailing address.
